Type of Braces

Introducing Clarity™ ADVANCED Ceramic Brackets from 3M Unitek, a revolutionary leap forward in orthodontic ceramic brackets. Through the combination of progressive technology and state-of-the-art design, Clarity ADVANCED Ceramic Brackets deliver brilliant aesthetics, small design, predictable debonding and enhanced patient comfort.

Clarity Advanced Braces

Ceramic Braces are made of translucent (clear) materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, ceramic braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as ceramic braces are larger and are more brittle than their metal counterparts.

Traditional Metal Braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile. Today’s metal braces are smaller, more comfortable and more attractive.

Invisalign

Consider Invisalign® to get the beautiful straight teeth you’ve always wanted – without braces. A complimentary consultation with our doctor can determine if Invisalign is right for you.

WHAT IS IT?

Invisalign uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you’re wearing. So, you can smile as much during treatment as you can after. Invisalign is made with 3-D computer imaging technology and has been proven effective. More than 70% of orthodontists in the US and Canada are certified to treat with Invisalign.

WHY WOULD I WANT IT?

Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also comfortable, with no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. And no metal and wires usually means you spend less time in your doctor’s office getting adjustments. Invisalign also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to their final positions. You’ll visit us about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time typically lasts 9-15 months, and the number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both numbers will vary from case to case.

What are Invisalign Express 5 aligners?

Invisalign Teen

Invisalign Express 5 is a revolutionary new system of aligners designed to correct minor imperfections in about 5-6 weeks. Each set of aligners are customized to fit your mouth and to give you the smile you’ve always wanted. Invisalign Express 5 aligners are designed to correct minor crowding or spacing and to realign teeth that have already received orthodontic treatment.

Many people have very minor crowding or spacing they would like to correct, but don’t follow through because of the perceived high cost and long length of treatment.  With Invisalign’s new five-stage treatment, there is now a great option for qualified patients who -want an effective, affordable, fast and convenient way to straighten minor aesthetic concerns in three months or less. Patients who qualify for this new treatment option receive a series of five aligner sets – each set is switched out approximately every two weeks.

What are the benefits of using Invisalign Express 5?

Invisalign Express 5 offers many great benefits, including:

  1. Quicker treatment times – With Invisalign Express 5, you can begin your treatment just 3-4 weeks after your doctor has taken impressions, and most cases are completed within just 5 months.
  2. Comfort – The Invisalign Express 5 plastic aligners are custom made to fit your mouth. The aligners are made of a unique plastic material that is smooth and invisible! The aligners fit so well that your family and friends may never even know you’re wearing braces.
  3. Convenience – Each aligner is worn for only 2-3 weeks, for 5-6 months. After your treatment is complete, you’re left with a beautiful, straight smile in less time than with traditional orthodontic appliances.

Retainer instructions:

Your retainer should be worn 24 hours a day until the doctor advises otherwise. Remove the retainers when eating and rinse thoroughly after drinking to avoid staining. We recommend that you continue to wear your retainers as the doctor instructed because teeth continue to move throughout your life.

Tips:

  • Some soreness may occur the first couple of days as your teeth get used to the retainer. You can take Tylenol or Advil if needed to help relieve the soreness.
  • It may take a few days to adjust to speaking with retainers. Practice by reading a book aloud at home.
  • Never place the retainer on a table, lunch tray or wrap it in a napkin. This is one of the most common ways that retainers are lost.
  • If you have difficulty getting the retainer seated properly or causes pain contact our office so we can adjust the retainer. Never try adjusting your retainer yourself.
  • Do not wear your retainer while swimming.
  • If the retainer is lost or broken, please contact the office immediately to schedule an appointment and find out about replacement and fees.

How to care for your retainer:

Be sure to clean your retainer thoroughly once a day with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Brushing the retainers removes the plaque, and eliminates odors. Also you may soak the retainer in Efferdent once a week for 5-10 minutes.

Storing your retainer:

ALWAYS store your retainer in the provided retainer case when it is not in your mouth. Pets love to chew on them!

Bonded Lingual Retainer

Bonded lingual (tongue side) retainer

The bonded retainer may remain in your mouth forever, as long as you are properly cleaning it. This special type of retainer is always working since it is attached to your teeth and you can’t take it in or out. Once the retainer is placed it may feel a little bumpy, and take a few days for your tongue to get used to the wire on the inside of the front teeth.

How to care for your retainer:

You must spend extra time cleaning the bonded retainer. Flossing and brushing thoroughly around the bonded retainer must become part of your daily routine. Poor hygiene can lead to gingivitis, cavities or even periodontal disease. Continue to see your family dentist and hygienist for regular check ups and cleanings to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Sometimes the bonded retainer may become detached from one or more teeth. If you notice  the retainer is loose, broken or feel any teeth shifting, call us immediately.
